Secure By Default

Thanks to the excellent Let’s Encrypt project, this website is now being delivered¬†over a secure connection. You probably won’t notice anything at all from that change, except for the little green lock icon, but I thought it was worth noting for posterity’s sake.

  1. It wasn’t quite as simple as the marketing copy makes it sound, but it was still easier than the normal process of setting up a correctly signed SSL certificate. Plus, it was free.

Nginx support is roughly non-existent, but the standalone method (which I ended up using anyhow) should be good enough. Certificate lifetimes are only ninety days, so setting up cron to renew certificates is a must.
